PGI will soon have a facility for heart transplant. Hospital authorities are reportedly waiting for approval from the health ministry.
This additional facility will benefit a large number of people as there are less heart transplant centres in the northern region. A committee would conduct a survey at the hospital after which the ministry would give its consent.
Also, the 2nd World Heart Failure Congress-2010 will be organized at PGIMER. The guest faculty, including eminent cardiologists from around eight countries will deliberate on various aspects of heart failure like prevention, management, global and regional scenarios, cardiomyopathies, rheumatic heart disease etc.
Treatment of heart failure is expensive and results of heart failure treatment are still suboptimal. However, recent advances in heart failure management have improved results. It is important that newer treatment modalities should be used judiciously to maximize patient benefit at acceptable costs. Recent advances in heart failure diagnosis, medical management, devices and surgery had benefited patients. Role of these treatment modalities will be placed in perspective. Measures to prevent and treat heart failure will also be discussed at the event.
