INDO SWEDISH HEALTH WEEK STARTS JAN 31

-Swedish Health Minister to arrive in India to boost synergies between the two countries in the area of healthcare relations –

Ms Maria Larsson, Swedish Minister for Elderly Care and Public Health will arrive in India on Jan 31, 2010 to inaugurate The Indo Swedish Health Week, which attempts to strengthen the cooperation and synergies between the two countries in healthcare.

A 65-member delegation comprising high-level government officials, members of academia and Swedish businesses from the area of healthcare and pharmaceuticals will accompany the Minister.

During her visit to India, Ms Larsson will meet the Indian Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad and inaugurate the Indo Swedish Health Week.

The Indo Swedish Health Week aims to provide a platform to enhance and develop collaborations between India and Sweden in mutually agreed upon areas and to create opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and shared learning between the Swedish and Indian public agencies, academic and research institutions, civil society organisations, private agencies and businesses.

The Activities of the Health Week which are spread across New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai are:

  • Presentation of the Indian and Swedish health care systems
  • Public agencies bilateral partner meetings
  • Roundtables
  • Thematic workshops in the following areas: –
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Public Health and alcohol policy
  • Maternal and child health
  • Adolescent health
  • Public health and research
  • Activities by Leading Health Care (Stockholm School of Economics) and the business community (Swecare, Swedish Trade Council, Invest in Sweden amongst others)


The activities will result in increased opportunities for Indian and Swedish businesses, and concrete action for collaboration between public agencies, academia and the government within the framework of the MoU signed between the two countries last year.
