Angina Pectoris - Causes and Treatment
Angina is a potentially life-threatening, rapidly expanding heart disease. The measurement of health-related quality of life has attracted much attention and is now a component of most big clinical trials. Therefore we should evaluate and choose between treatments and make judgements about priorities in health care. The prognosis of patients with non- ST segment elevation acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are guarded. These patients can be risk-stratified on the basis of symptom complex, electro-cardiographic ST segment depression and obvious hemodynamic compromise and particularly on the basis of serum troponin level. An elevated troponin level determines risk and also predicts the degree of benefit from treatment with either low molecular weight heparin or platelet glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa blockade. Higher risk patients should undergo early coronary angiography and myocardial revascularization as indicated and feasible. This article explains about the types, causes signs & symptoms and appropriate treatment for various types of angina.
