Postmenopausal Women And Osteoporotic Fractures
The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) defines osteoporosis as a systemic bone diseases characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, which lead to enhanced bone fragility and a consequent increase in the risk of fracture with minimal trauma. Osteoporosis is characterized by frequent bone fractures, which are major cause of disability among the elderly of both sexes but is most pronounced in postmenopausal women.
Assessment of osteoporosis can be accomplished through a complete physical assessment, laboratory testing, bone mineral density (BMD) testing.
