Anaesthesia for Endoscopic Procedures in ENT Surgeries
The study of internal nasal contours dates back to the mankind when the nose was predominantly associated with the sense of smell. The earliest record of an anatomical observation is in the papyrus of Abers and Egyptian tomb inscriptions, dated well before 1500 BC. This ancient culture used the nose as a route for extracting the contents of the cranial vault as a part of the mummification process, thereby avoiding any facial disfigurement. This implies an intimate knowledge of the intricate relationship between the roof of the ethmoids and the brain.
Endoscopic sinus surgery has its roots both in intranasal procedures performed in the mid nineteenth century as well as diagnostic sinoscopy which was relatively new at that time.
Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is a common procedure performed on routine basis .The duration of procedure is 45-60 minutes. The male to female incidence is 1:1.
